Product Description IOGEAR's USB to IEEE-1284 Bi-directional Printer Cable allows you to send print job from an USB-only computer to parallel printers. This cable is fully compliant with USB 1.1 and IEEE 1284 1994 specifications. It features bi-directional data transfer at the parallel port to assure high-speed printing and a maximum data transfer rate of 12 Mbps. It is easy to install, hot swappable, and does not require any external power adapters.

| Customer Reviews:
Works great September 23, 2008 I have an HP Laserjet 4 with a parallel out and a new HP desktop with a USB print port. Once I connected the cable, I had to change the port on the printer properties to be USB rather than LPT1 or whatever, then it worked great.
not bad, not great March 24, 2008 so i have my LaserJet 4000 hooked up through a USB hub, and every time i reboot my PC, the OS (Win XP) loses the driver (shows up as Unknown USB Driver).
this is easily fixed if i unplug the cable from the hub port, plug into the another hub port, and then plug back into the original hub port.
but what a hassle. i didnt see the other review about someone mentioning it doesnt work through a hub. mine does, though only if i unplug/replug everytime.
you would think they would make these so they would work through a hub . . .
:(
Works As Advertised August 11, 2007 This cable performs as advertised, easily permitting my aging HP 4000 LaserJet, with only a parallel port, to connect to my new Dell laptop. The only caveat is that this cable will not function through a USB hub, it must be connected directly to a USB port on the computer.
Not Really Bi-Directional May 15, 2007 A little bit of information that is not in the product review but is disclosed in the Start-up guide. QUOTE "This product supports printing from your computer to the printer, but does not support any additional features (of the printer) that require your computer. This is most noticeable with Multi-Function Printers (MFPs), but not limited to them. This may include (but is not limited to) faxing, scanning and checking ink levels." So this cable is promoted as Bi-directional but Iogear knows it can only send information to the printer! It did not work with a receipt printer I was adding to my computer, I hope it will work with my old HP printer.
Nice to have. November 19, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this USB printer cable in order get rid of my parallel cable of my old printer. This USB cable works perfectly when I connect it to the printer and then to the computer. But when I tried to put it on the network (using my DI-704UP), the built-in print server in the router detects the printer but never prints. I have tried to resolve that but until now I have not been successful. I don't think the problem is with the cable. Overall I recommend this product.
