A Good Small Boat Anchor March 31, 2008 Wretched software. Driver can't be reinstalled with out reformatting your hard drive. The generic driver fix did not work for me. Also do not change your USB port location or you will loose your ability to print. The print quality is ok but the printing is slower than than advertised.
Best Printer I Have Ever Had!!! February 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned this printer since I purchased it in 2004. My current page count is at 3,300 and so far it has worked flawlessly. I have not had a single paper jam, a single smudge mark, or even a hiccup. I routinely print tiny text less than 6 point font and it is easily readable and razer sharp. I have always used it attached to my external print server via parallel port so I can not comment on the USB printing. I upgraded it to 34MB and it really helped with photo printing speeds. Manual duplex printing is really handy and works great as well (saved me a lot of paper). I have used it with Windows ME, XP, and Vista with 0 problems! It has outlived 4 of my ink jet printers that I use for color stuff. If you are looking for a fast, low cost, and very nice printer I would go for this one.
Fine For Text January 4, 2008 This printer was, at the time, a decent value for printing typical text-based documents. It's biggest problem is that it doesn't print graphics well at all. For instance, a Google map is virtually useless as you can barely make out enough detail (street names, thin road lines, etc) to make it worth while. I would look elsewhere.
Great basic laser printer for home use November 4, 2007 I bought this printer in October 2003, and we're still on the same laser cartridge! Obviously we don't do a lot of printing, but for clear sharp text I'm glad we have this. It has migrated along with me from my old HP PC, to living on an Airport network in an almost-all Mac household. With it plugged into the network, we can print from our laptops anywhere in the house! It just works with everything. A great value.
Work horse printer for home/small office October 16, 2007 I bought this printer 2+ years ago as I work in the IT department of a hospital and found myself wasting a lot of money on Ink cartridges for my deskjet printers when working from home.
I made the switch to this printer, and it succeeded on nearly every level. I still have the original Toner cartridge in it, though I am going to be purchasing a new one as it's almost out.
Pros: The printer handles regular print jobs, envelopes, label sheets, etc. with ease. The footprint is smaller than the traditional lasers, so it's not something you will need to buy new furniture for. It's speedy and can handle most document printing that you may encounter in a home/home office environment.
Cons: I don't know the cost of memory upgrades (I haven't had the need for one), but there is a Network interface option available... It is difficult to find add-ons for this printer and when I was able to find a Network Interface, the cost was more than a brand-new network laser printer.
On another note: There are lots of people who give it a poor rating that state there is poor quality printing (shadowing, toner discharge, etc.) out of the box... I have not witnessed this on my printer until the toner is near the end of its life. Simply cleaning the Toner drum unit fixes those issues, it has nothing to do with the printer itself. Do yourself a favor and purchase only manufacturer replacement toners. I don't know why you would give the printer 1 or 2 stars if you have a bad toner!
